Treatments

Highly controlled flashes of laser beams are selectively absorbed by the pigment located in the hair follicles lying below the surface of the skin. The absorbed light heats the hair, which damages and destroys the regrowth potential of the follicle- all without damaging surrounding tissue. Hair follicles are usually in different growth cycles at different times in relation to one another. Since the follicle must be in active growth in order to be affected by the laser, several treatments spread over several months are required to assure the destruction of all hair follicles.

Laser hair removal selectively kills hair follicles, or the structures that grow hair. Each session destroys the follicles beyond a point of repair, and thus hair will not continue to grow. Laser hair removal is a treatment that can be used on any body part, for all skin types.

This laser uses state-of-the-art diodes with vacuum-assist technology to remove unwanted hair with greater speed (faster treatment times) and comfort than other methods. Also, it is virtually painless. Therefore, there is no need for using numbing cream.

There are three phases in the lifecycle of a hair: which includes Anagen (growth phase), Telogen (resting phase), and Catagen (falling out phase). Only during the Anagen phase, the laser can destroy the hair follicle (also known as the dermal papilla), heat it up and destroy the hair permanently. Not all the hairs are in this phase at the same time, so multiple treatments are necessary.

The LightSheer laser has been cleared by the FDA for hair removal and permanent hair reduction on all skin types. To achieve a satisfactory level of reduction, generally between 7 and 9 treatments spaced 4 to 8 weeks apart will fully remove about 80% of hair in the treated area. The follicles that absorb the laser will likely never grow back.

Some of the hair follicles may go dormant and could reactivate with hormonal changes or as the body naturally ages, but these hairs will be lighter, finer and less dense. In some occasions, the hair follicles are resistant to treatment or may need more treatments or they may regrow later on, usually due to hormonal imbalances.

Laser

Laser for Hidradenitis Suppurativa (HS)

At Danesh Dermatology, we offer Laser Hair Removal as part of a comprehensive treatment plan for Hidradenitis Suppurativa (HS). HS is a long-term skin condition that causes painful bumps and boils in areas where skin rubs together.

Laser treatment can help support adjunct methods in managing the condition, including medication and lifestyle changes. Combining different methods offers a multi-faceted approach to improving the long-term results for those who have HS. Insurance may cover the treatment, and our office will work to check your coverage and walk you through the process.
